Foundations and Rot and Leaks — Oh My!

It’s been all about foundations, rot and leaks the last few weeks. Right now I’m finishing up an in-wall plumbing leak that trashed a poor lady’s dry wall. Luckily I got to the problem before it rotted out the floor beneath her tub.

Which resembles another job I submitted an estimate for last week. The bathroom floor was being held up by 4x4s that the owner’s son had shoved up under the house. The sub-floor was gone in places, a girder had rotted in half. (And right in the middle of the house too!) Two floor joists were rotted in half. And under about half of the house the ground was going to have to be lowered to prevent the problem from re-occurring.

And, there’s another foundation job in the mill. Hopefully we’ll get rolling on it by the end of the month. The owner’s waiting on funding and new windows he wants installed before we start, since I have to replace the siding while I’m at it.

And in my spare time I’ve been working on another green building article for you. This one will be on engineered lumber. Kind of like GluLam for the rest of us.

Keep the projects coming!
